Hotkey Check Tab View

The Hotkey Check tab view lists those caption texts for which hotkey errors have been detected (missing/doubled hotkeys).  This check is performed automatically; manual execution is not necessary.  The tab will display one of two symbols (Figure 5) indicating the presence or absence of hotkey errors for the selected menu.

Two types of hotkey errors can be reported:

1.

Missing hotkey.  The source text contains a hotkey specification (mnemonic key), but the target text (translation) does not.

2.

Doubled hotkey.  The same hotkey character is used more than one menu item.

Hotkey errors can be resolved in one of two ways:

1.

Edit the target text (translation) in the Translation Edit bar to place the ampersand character (& – designates the next character as the hotkey) in front of the desired hotkey character.

2.

Use the Hotkey Assignment dialog box to resolve the error.  Access by right mouse-clicking to open a local menu and selecting the Hotkey Assignment command.  The command is also available in the toolbar and in the "Edit" menu.

Right-to-Left (RTL) Tab View

The Right-to-Left (RTL) tab is used to set the RTL (right-to-left) reading order for the currently selected menu resource or for all the menu resources in the translation project at once.

NOTE ON WIN32 DIALOG BOXES AND .NET WINDOWS FORMS: The "menu layout styles" vary accordingly for Win32 (Figure 2) and .NET Windows Forms (Figure 3).  The Apply to all menus command button only works for Win32 dialog boxes OR .NET Windows Forms, respectively.  This is noteworthy if the translation project contains both Win32 and .NET resource files.

Check Functions

The hotkey check finds missing and doubled hotkeys in menu resources and reports these errors in the Check Results view, the Menu view, and the Hotkey Check tab view.

Please refer to the "Checks" help topic for information on running checks and viewing reported errors.
